August will see the second instalment of Guide Boot Camp. Our aim with this initiative is to up-skill unemployed young South Africans, and help them gain employment in the tourism industry.
Round 1 of Guide Boot Camp finished up in June 2019, with Dumisani Tazibona completing the full course. Dumi says the course was “excellent and very inspiring”, and he had a lot of fun on tour with Earthstompers super guide Christine, and a group of ten guests hailing from Canada, Australia, Germany, and Switzerland.
The next Guide Boot Camp course will take place in August 2019.
14 & 15 August 2019: Classroom training in Somerset West on how Earthstompers conducts Garden Route tours, vehicle checks, safety management, tourism destinations, sustainability, guide ethics, diversity training, and history.
16-19 August 2019: 4 Day Garden Route training tour. More tour training dates available, depending on schedule.
Course objectives
Trainees will gain some basic experience guiding in the tourism industry by going on tour with our awesome Earthstompers guides. Trainees will have the chance to interact with paying international guests, and practice guiding small sections of the tour if they feel comfortable.
By completing this course, trainees will be better prepared to apply for entry-level guiding/driving positions in the tourism industry.
Course requirements
In order to participate in this course, you MUST have a valid Professional Drivers Permit (PDP), and have completed a professional guiding course.
There is no cost to attend the course.
Please note: Earthstompers Adventures and Tourism Boot Camp is not an official training facility or institution. In no way do we undermine work done by official guide training establishments. Completing a formal guiding course and having a valid Professional Driving Permit (PDP) are prerequisites for Guide Boot Camp. Our efforts in offering Guide Boot Camp are voluntary, and our way of giving back and sharing what we’ve learned over many years in the tourism industry.
