If you’re heading to the Garden Route on an Earthstompers tour, you should consider adding a Garden Route safari to your tour itinerary. South Africa has plenty of great big 5 safari opportunities, the Garden Route being one.

I recently had the pleasure of visiting Gondwana Private Game Reserve, close to Mossel Bay, for 2 nights, staying at the newly renovated Kwena Lodge. The lodge is modern and luxurious with the suites imitating the traditional Khoi San ‘huts’. 14 privately situated suites, positioned in a half-moon with an infinity pool in the center offering 180-degree views of the reserve and passing wildlife. The game sightings were spectacular and the fynbos vegetation on the reserve, with the Outeniqua Mountains in the background, makes everything look even more beautiful. I had a wonderful time soaking it all in and relaxing. I loved the dinners; some excellent local dishes at the restaurant, paired with great wines. The highlight of my stay was the quality time in pristine nature and seeing wild animals freely roaming on this beautiful reserve.

See some pictures below of my visit to Gondwana, staying at Kwena Lodge:

I also visited:

Kwena Lodge Villas: Luxury private villas adjacent to Kwena Lodge, perfect for families or groups.

Lehele Lodge Villas: Located 1 – 8 km from Lehele Lodge. Perfect for self-drive families or groups.

Ulubisi House: Exclusive use 3-bedroom house with private butler, chef and ranger.

Gondwana’s New Fynbos Experience
Fynbos, one of the world’s six floral kingdoms, is not only the smallest but also the most diverse. Its vibrant colours evolve with the changing seasons, creating a captivating tapestry of nature. However, this unique ecosystem is critically endangered and we are committed to protecting and restoring Fynbos on the reserve.

The Fynbos experience is led by our expert conservation team, who have spent countless hours in the field collecting data and researching our exceptional biodiversity. This opportunity allows you to fully immerse yourself into our Fynbos kingdom, gaining unique insight into the floral treasures that Gondwana safeguards.

The Fynbos Experience is held daily after breakfast from 11:00AM – 14:00PM, and a portion of the proceeds will support biodiversity restoration efforts on the reserve.

How can you join a Gondwana Safari?

Add a safari extension to your 6 day Garden Route group tour, or request a safari as part of one of our Garden Route private tours. Guests joining our 6-day Garden Route & Addo group tour can add a 2- or 3-night safari. The guide will drop you off on the last day of the tour to start your safari!

Greetings from Cape Town,
